What is Longwave Therapy?
Longwave therapy (also called longwave diathermy) is a therapeutic modality that delivers electromagnetic energy at specific frequencies to produce deep heating of tissues. The generated deep heat increases tissue extensibility, improves local blood flow, reduces muscle spasm, and accelerates healing processes — making it useful in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and pain management.
How it works (simple):
- Device emits controlled electromagnetic waves that penetrate soft tissues.
- Energy converts to heat in deeper layers (muscle, joint capsule, connective tissue).
- Deep heating promotes circulation, reduces pain and stiffness, and supports tissue repair.
Key Benefits
- Deep tissue heating for chronic and subacute conditions
- Effective pain relief and reduction of muscle spasm
- Improves tissue extensibility before stretching and manual therapy
- Speeds recovery in soft tissue injuries and postoperative rehabilitation
- Quick, non-invasive, and clinic-friendly treatment sessions
Typical Indications
- Osteoarthritis and joint stiffness
- Chronic low back pain and myofascial pain
- Soft tissue injuries and tendonopathies
- Muscle contracture and limited range of motion
- Post‑operative rehabilitation (as directed by clinician)
